Chapter 6. Replacing devices
This chapter contains the following items:
Static electricity prevention
Static electricity, although harmless to you, can seriously damage computer components and options.
Improper handling of static-sensitive parts can cause damage to the part. When you unpack an option or
a CRU, do not open the static-protective package that contains the part until the instructions direct you
to install the part.
When you handle options or CRUs, or perform any work inside the computer, take the following precautions
to avoid static-electricity damage:
• Limit your movement. Movement can cause static electricity to build up around you.
• Always handle components carefully. Handle adapters, memory modules, and other circuit boards by the
edges. Never touch exposed circuitry.
• Prevent others from touching components.
• When you install a static-sensitive option or CRU, touch the static-protective package that contains the
part to a metal expansion-slot cover or other unpainted metal surface on the computer for at least two
seconds. This reduces static electricity in the package and your body.
• When possible, remove the static-sensitive part from the static-protective packaging and install the part
without setting it down. When this is not possible, place the static-protective package on a smooth,
level surface and place the part on the package.
• Do not place the part on the computer cover or other metal surface.

Re: Disable the built in battery / ac adapter attached at home
It’s impossible to disable the battery programmatically and keep the laptop working. Once the battery is disabled in the BIOS Setup, laptop will power off automatically.
To save the battery life do not charge it fully. To do this use Lenovo Settings application and Custom Battery Threshold feature. Set start charging level to, for example, 40%, and 50% as a stop level.
Note, Lenovo Power Management and System Interface Foundation drivers should be installed either.

Re: how to disable built in battery in ideapad 320
In Lenovo vantage you can turn on «Conservation mode». See below. It talks about Lenovo settings. BUT same feature is in Vantage. It will keep battery at 55-60%. SO for example if currently its at 90% it will not charge even if its plugged into outlet.

Re: how to disable built in battery in ideapad 320
In addition, nowadays battery are equip with chip that would auto direct power to AC as noted here:
» Having a battery fully charged and the laptop plugged in is not harmful, because as soon as the charge level reaches 100% the battery stops receiving charging energy and this energy is bypassed directly to the power supply system of the laptop.«
As most laptops design employ built in battery, using tools such as Lenovo Vantage and likewise using coolers at the bottom of the laptop helps heat distribution that prolongs battery life.
