День Содружества наций (Commonwealth Day) — ежегодный праздник 54 стран-участниц международного сообщества Содружество наций (до 1947 года — Британское Содружество наций), ассоциации независимых государств, ранее входивших в Британскую империю, признающих британского монарха в качестве символа свободного единения. День Содружества наций отмечается во второй понедельник марта и каждый год посвящён определённой теме.
Правовой статус Содружества наций (Commonwealth of Nations) определен Вестминстерским статутом 1931 года (уточнен в 1947). Существует Секретариат Содружества, проводятся ежегодные конференции стран Содружества. В Великобритании в составе правительства учрежден пост министра по делам Содружества.
После того, как Британская империя потеряла 13 американских колоний, оставив за собой Канаду, Индию, некоторые владения в Вест-Индии и ряд разбросанных и отдаленных поселений, в метрополии наметились две политические линии. Первая предполагала ориентацию на расширение британского влияния в Индии и на Дальнем Востоке.
Вторая линия, наряду с расширением этого влияния (в интересах британской промышленности и в целях экономии государственных расходов) допускала развитие в колониях самоуправления, чтобы предотвратить повторение Войны за независимость североамериканских колоний.
В сам же праздник в Вестминстерском аббатстве в Лондоне проводится многоконфессиональное служение, в котором принимает участие британский монарх в качестве главы Содружества. В ряде стран День Содружества является государственным праздником, а в остальных государствах-членах в этот день проводятся тематические мероприятия и повсеместно церемонии поднятия флага Содружества.

История
Содружество наций сформировалось в 1887 году в Лондоне на колониальной конференцией. Правовой статус сообщества был определен Вестминстерским статутом 1931 года. Существует Секретариат Содружества, проводятся ежегодные конференции стран Содружества. В Великобритании в составе правительства учрежден пост министра по делам Содружества. Страны-участницы Содружества расположены по всему миру. Все члены имеют равное право голоса. Представители стран-членов формируют политику и приоритеты деятельности Содружества. Встречи, на которых обсуждаются важные вопросы, проходят каждые два года.
Распад Британской империи наступил после окончания Второй мировой войны. С 1946 года «Британское содружество» изменило свое название на «Содружество». Содружество рассматривается как организация, в рамках которой государства, различающиеся по уровню развития и характеру экономики, имеют возможность вступать в тесное и равноправное взаимодействие. Кстати говоря, Содружество не является политическим союзом, и членство в нём не позволяет Великобритании оказывать какое-либо политическое влияние на остальных членов.
Празднование
В этот праздник в Вестминстерском аббатстве проводится многоконфессиональное служение, в котором принимает участие британский монарх в качестве главы Содружества. В некоторых государствах-членах в этот день проводятся тематические мероприятия и церемонии поднятия флага Содружества.
