I have a problem with my phone. While i was updating my phone through itunes my laptop shutdown, and after i restarted the computer my phone was stuck with the itunes logo and charger cord. From then, I’ve called apple for help and support, but anythign they asked me to do or try, i have already tried and it was all a failure. so now ive started to explore google and see if anyone has had the same problems as i have, I’ve tried many things but nothing has worked out for me, so i started to use this site as a source for help and was told, to fix the problem i am having, I must remove all itunes and its components and reinstall it, so i did all that. after i finished installing, itunes could not open because apple aplication support was not found (I was told to remove this from control panel aswell) but the download that was given to me aparantly doesn’t have the apple application support, which without, i cannot run itunes, meaning, now i can’t fix my phone unless i have access to itunes.
The error that comes up is:
Apple application not found.
Apple application support is required to run itunes. Please uninstall itunes, then install itunes again.

When this error came up, i followed what it told me to do and reinstalled itunes, however, the same error came up. so i tried to download apple application support seperately but have had no luck. i could really use some good help, it’s been 3 days since my phone has stopped working and of all the things I’ve been researching, nothing has helped. Help please.

Let’s try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select «Extract to iTunesSetup» (or «Extract to iTunes64Setup»). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called «iTunesSetup» (or «iTunes64Setup»).
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I used those steps to remove most of the applications. Then I hade the error in this topic and had to use your steps along with some massaging of the installations. I was just stating that this topic and the topic that turingtest2 is helping with are related and should be combined so that users have the steps to delete (deal with any apps that won’t delete) and then have your steps available on the same page if users experience the same Error 2 code as I did. I needed all the steps plus figure pieces out on my own. I have over 10 hours invested in commenting and going through errors with this issue. Problem can be solved quicker if all information was put together in one topic.

I appreciate all of the help that you and turingtest2 have given me so far. I am by no means trying to sound ungrateful. Now it turns out that one of the download links is labled wrong because I plugged my phone into iTunes and it says that I have the wrong version and I need to delete and reinstall 64 bit. I give up on this stupid thing for now. At least I know all the steps that I need to take. I’m a pro at removing and reinstalling all of the apps associated with iTunes. That usually indicates that your Apple Mobile Device Support hasn’t installed either. So we’ll try a standalone AMDS install (much like the standalone AAS install and Bonjour installs you did earlier).
Go back into the folder you extracted with WinRAR. This time, doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi file.
Does that install go through okay? If so, can you connect your device without getting the error message?

Hi JerOmyB, I never did run across this thread at the time, but the current version of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates now includes a section Install missing components which addresses the issue of missing AAS or AMDS after a «clean» install, or doing the whole install as individual components when the main installer seems to go awry.

I found the solution myself!
1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose «Open with WinRAR».
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose «Repair».
4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally. 🙂

OK, this worked for me:
1. Save iTunes install file to your desktop.
2. Disconnect from internet.
3. Disable Firewall/Security software.
4. Run install. Note that it installs Application Support and a bunch of other software this time.
5. Run iTunes.
6. Enable Firewall/Security software.
7. Reconnect to internet.
8. Download Watchmen Director’s Cut post haste.

I have same problem here with winXP and iphone.
perfect apple, itunes is still **** for windows.
many error massages or even not working.
ALL versions of itunes didn’t work properly at my PC.
dotsync errors all the times with 8.0 to 8.2
9.0 isn’t starting «apple application support was not found».
but itunes is so buggy. never seen such a bugged programm and it’s a MUST for iphone.
PLEASE APPLE fix the itunes problems for windows users!!

Thank you for this! I did it a little differently. I uninstalled all apple software from my PC (Vista Ultimate). Then I ran the AppleApplicationSupport.msi file. Then I ran the iTunes install. It worked. Before Windows wasl killing the AppleApplicationSupport install causing QuickTime not to run and therefore iTunes not to run.
I was minutes away from formatting my harddrive. I had it all backed up and ready to go. I really did not want to do this, so I searched for a solution again and found yours. Thank you again!

I know this is a bit late but I came accross this thread trying to resolve this same problem and came up with a solution that worked for me, so thought I would share it here too. I hope it helps someone else.
I just resolved this on Win Vista (should apply equally for Win7 too). Please uninstall iTunes before proceeding though. I’ll walk you through the process I followed, if you like you can jump straight to the Solution section.
The initial error during the installation of iTunes was:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly ‘Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version=»8.0.50727.4053″,type=»win32″,publicKeyToken=’1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b»,processorarchitecture=»x86″. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x8007054F
The error (after installing iTunes) when trying to run iTunes was:

After trying various fixes around the forums I came across this MSKB article, which relates to the first installation error:

Through this error I found this MSKB article:
The Automated MS «Fix It» msi package didn’t work.
Note: Please backup your registry first (see the above MSKB article for instructions).
I opened the registry and (as instructed in the MSKB article) deleted the following keys:
Reboot and reinstall iTunes.
